Building houses with Habitat is an experience you’ll never forget

Volunteers are the heart of Muskegon County Habitat for Humanity. Whether as an individual, corporate team, community or faith-based group or just a group of friends, there are many ways to volunteer. We welcome volunteers of all skill levels to contribute their time and talents, supporting local families as they gain the strength, stability and independence they need to build their futures.

Carpenters' Club

This group helps fill our largest need – regular weekday volunteers. These dedicated men and women are the core of our volunteer labor force. Our construction sites offer many volunteer opportunities that may include deconstruction, framing, exterior trim, painting or trim carpentry. No experience is required! Club members volunteer at least once a month.

Team Build Days are a unique opportunity for corporations and organizations to give back to the community while fostering collaboration and communication among members on a reserved day on a Muskegon County Habitat for Humanity construction site.

Volunteers perform a variety of important functions necessary to the operation and success of our ReStores. ReStore volunteers help in all of the following ways: Creating decorative displays, DIY projects, customer service, stocking shelves, unloading trucks, furniture repair and refurbishing, helping with donation pick-ups, pricing inventory, organizing the store and warehouse, cashier, sales floor associate, merchandiser. Truly, there is something for everyone!

We don’t always build houses. Sometimes we take them apart! Our deconstruction crew goes into homes and buildings that are scheduled for demolition and removes salvageable items for sale at our ReStores. A deconstruction project can range from disassembling kitchen cabinetry and countertops, to removing plumbing, appliances, landscaping materials and furniture. Volunteers work alongside Habitat staff members who provide all necessary instruction, tools and safety equipment.

Habitat for Humanity owns property throughout Muskegon County where we intend to build houses someday. Until then, we do our best to be good neighbors and maintain out lots, but isn’t easy. A great way your family or group can partner with us is to adopt a Habitat property near you. You mow and rake as needed and we will provide the tools and equipment!

ReStore Material Safety Data Volunteer

Are you detailed oriented and love doing research?  We need your help to create a system for our MSDS information.  Together with Restore staff, you will inventory current materials in the ReStore, research MSDS information and create a binder for our three ReStores.
